A museum dedicated to the contributions made to aviation by Milwaukee County and Wisconsin, Mitchell Gallery of Flight collects and exhibits artifacts and memorabilia of such Wisconsin aviation greats as fighter ace Dick Bong; astronaut James A. Lovell, Jr.; and World War II air commander Brigadier General Lester Maitland. The museum also displays an array of impressive aircraft artifacts, such as antique propellers dating back from as early as World War I, scale models of military aircraft from 1950-1975, and an exact 1.5 scale replica of a Caravelle cockpit, used by United Airlines from 1961-1970. This informative aviation museum is located inside General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee.
